Is online pokies gambling legal in New Zealand?
The Online Casino Gambling Act 2026 sets up New Zealand's first licensed online casino market. Until it is in place, the Department of Internal Affairs says it is legal for New Zealanders to play at online casinos that were already serving the country on 1 May 2026, while warning there are no guarantees of player safety. Advertising those casinos to New Zealanders is unlawful, with penalties up to NZ$5 million.
